Products without palm oil

Palm oil is in about half of all packaged supermarket products: biscuits, chocolate spread, margarine, noodles, crisps. Since 2014 it may no longer hide behind ‘vegetable oil’ and must be named.

Where palm oil is used and how it appears on the label

  • Look for ‘palmolie’, ‘palmvet’, ‘palmpit’ and ‘palmpitolie’; ‘sheabutter’ and ‘cocosvet’ are not palm but often appear in the same place.
  • ‘Sustainable palm oil’ (RSPO) is still palm oil.

How to find products without palm oil

  • Search for ‘palmolie’ in the search bar: every result contains it. The site searches the ingredient text, not just the product name.
What this site does and does not do

We read the ingredient list and the allergen declaration as the supermarket publishes them, and hide every product that contains the allergen. Products without allergen information are hidden by default too: unknown is not the same as safe. What we cannot do is read the pack in the shop. Recipes change, and the information here can lag behind. When in doubt the label in your hand decides, and for questions about your health your doctor or dietitian.
