Contact and reporting mistakes
Do you see an allergen that is wrong here? Report it. On a site people use to decide what they can eat, that is the only mistake that can really do harm, and we would rather hear it from you than have someone run into it.
Reporting a wrong allergen
Useful to include, but report it even if you only have part of it:
- The link to the product page here, or the barcode.
- What the pack in your hand says, ideally typed out word for word.
- What we make of it, and what you think it should have said.
- When you bought the product. Recipes change, and then we are behind.
At the bottom of each product page there is a button that fills this in for you.
Where the data comes from
We read the ingredient list and the allergen statement as Albert Heijn, Jumbo, PLUS, Dirk and Hoogvliet publish them themselves, and check every product again every seven days. So two things can go wrong: the supermarket publishes something different from what is on the pack, or the recipe has just changed and we haven't seen it yet. That is why the pack in your hand always has the final say.
At Hoogvliet we work out the allergens from the ingredient text instead of from a separate field, because that shop does not publish that field. This is noted on those products, and you can exclude those shops with the option Only shops that declare allergens.
What we are not
Not medical advice, and no substitute for your doctor or dietitian. Nor are we connected to any of the supermarkets. With a severe allergy: trust the label, and if in doubt, leave it on the shelf.
Privacy
There is not a single tracker on this site: no Google Analytics, no adverts, no third-party cookies. Without an account, everything you set stays on your own device: the filters you choose don't go to our server, and no cookie is set.
With an account that is different, and you should know that before you make one. We then store your email address, your password as an unreadable hash — we cannot see it ourselves — and your allergen profile, meaning which allergens you filter out. That last one says something about your health, and we only store it because you set it and so we can put it back on your next device. You can delete your account yourself, at the bottom of the account page; your profile, your saved products and your sessions all go with it at once. Staying signed in uses one cookie that is there only for that. A browser identifier is also stored with your session, so you can see where you are signed in.
We count which searches are typed, without IP address and without anything that can be traced back to you, to see which products people cannot find. In the same way we count per day which barcodes the Scanner reads and whether it shows green, red or grey: a barcode and a number, no time of day, and nothing that can be traced back to you or to your allergies. If you link a barcode to a product in the Scanner, we store that link with a random code your device made itself, and that code only in unrecognisable (hashed) form: it serves only to see whether three different phones make the same link. Separately, the web server keeps an access log, like every web server: it contains your IP address, for ninety days, and we use it only to count how many people visit the site and to look into faults. We don't show photos of products, because the copyright on them belongs to the supermarkets.
